PROFRACTIONAL
Laser Treatment for Scars, Wrinkles, Discolouration & Acne Scarring
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Profractional uses laser energy to create thousands of microscopic channels into the skin which are surrounded by areas of healthy, untreated skin. This invigorates the body’s natural healing process to stimulate production of new collagen, plumping up the skin & smoothing out wrinkles, lines, scars and other irregularities.
PROFRACTIONAL AT A GLANCE
PROFractional Laser Treatment is an innovative treatment that uses a highly controlled laser to create minute thermal interactions in small points along the treatment area. These interactions cause the underlying collagen to rebuild itself, smoothing out lines and wrinkles and evening out your skin tone.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT?
While thousands of microscopic areas are treated, the surrounding untreated areas act as healing aides, helping your skin to recover more quickly. The down time depends on your lifestyle. Most of our patients describe the first days after a treatment like having a mild sunburn.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?
All treatments begin with a skin cleansing and an anesthetic cream is applied that typically takes 30 minutes to activate. Once the anesthetic is working the laser treatment begins which usually lasts about 30-45 minutes. If a larger area is being treated some additional time will be needed.
AFTER YOUR TREATMENT
You may notice slight swelling or reddening in the first two days after your treatment. Your face will be flushed and then “tanned” (or bronzed) in appearance for a a week or so and your skin will begin to flake off. This is part of the healing process, allowing your skin to recover and for collagen to be regenerated.
We will call you the following your treatment. We also would like to see you on or before day 4 for a follow up visit.
We will see you 2 weeks after the treatment for a follow up appointment.
Your treatments will be spaced 4 weeks apart.

WHAT IS THE DOWNTIME?
Patients will need 2-3 days to get through the sunburn sensation. Peeling will begin on about day 4 and lasts approximately 2 days. Most patients can return to work within 2-3 days. A more aggressive treatment will take a little more downtime. Pain medicine can be prescribed, though most patients use only Tylenol.
